After moving into the purple mansion, Charlie Laird has been having nightmares every night and is fighting sleep. And if that's not enough he is convinced that his wacky stepmother, or in his case stepmonster, is a witch. All his life Charlie had been told that nightmares aren't real but the mansion is all the proof he needs. They're real. But things get much worse when he steps through the Netherworld portal. And in order to get back, Charlie and his friends must face their fears or it might be lights out for Charlie.

Me with Nightmares! without cover

Nightmares is a thrilling fantasy and adventure novel to kick off the Nightmares series. It is geared to readers of the ages 9 to 12 and who love a little scare.  This book has been one of my favorites since I was 9 (I’m 11 now) and I still love it so much! Jason Segel and Kristen Miller‘s writing style is amazing and very humorous and there are parts that will definitely make you laugh out loud, so be prepared. The story is totally thought through and creatively designed with twists and awesomeness around every corner. My favorite part is when Paige goes to face her fear because she is very brave and is motivated through the dark by the poor girl she is saving.  Most of the book is set in a place called the Netherworld, it’s a fantastical place where nightmares live and help you face your fears. Jason and Kristen make a very important theme about love and friendship but also about facing your fears head on. I’d say this is a book for most people if you get scared very easily it might not be the greatest book for you but otherwise I think it should be read by everyone over the age of 9 at least once.

about Xavier

Hi my name is Xavier, my mom and I started this site when I was ten (I’m thirteen now). I began working on this site because I love to read so much and I always give my friends ideas for books they should read. Click here to see a list of my favorites books. Most of my days are spent at school, on the bus, or doing homework. When I find a little down time I like to draw, listen to music, sing, play ukulele or bass guitar.
