Denizen Hardwick is an orphan, and his life is, well, normal. Sure, in storybooks orphans are rescued from drudgery when they discover they are a wizard or a warrior or a prophesied king. But this is real life—orphans are just kids without parents. At least that’s what Denizen thought. . . .

On a particularly dark night, the gates of Crosscaper Orphanage open to a car that almost growls with power. The car and the man in it retrieve Denizen with the promise of introducing him to a long-lost aunt. But on the ride into the city, they are attacked. Denizen soon learns that monsters can grow out of the shadows. And there is an ancient order of knights who keep them at bay. Denizen has a unique connection to these knights, but everything they tell him feels like a half-truth. If Denizen joins the order, is he fulfilling his destiny, or turning his back on everything his family did to keep him alive?

Review

This book has somehow wormed its way to the top of my Xav’s Favs list and my heart. It is such a gripping tale and I hung onto every word. But I think the coolest thing about reading the book wasn’t even the book itself…..it was reading it in Dublin because sometimes in the book the characters are just walking around Dublin, Ireland, and I think that is part of what made me have such a strong connection to the book.

Something about Dave Rudden‘s writing style just gets you sucked into the book teleported to another dimension. It really allows your mind and imagination to run free. Everything that gets written down in the book is somehow believable, even if he wrote something as crazy as elephants are purple, he would describe it with such detail that would make you actually believe they were purple.

A hundred mouths, a hundred tongues, one iron voice... _Dave Rudden, Knights of the Borrowed Dark

Knights of the Borrowed Dark is the first book in the Knights of the Borrowed Dark trilogy and I would say they are very on track to become as popular as Harry Potter! They are so good!

P.S. I just found out there is a third book that will come out sometime that I don’t know yet 🙂

about Xavier

Hi my name is Xavier, my mom and I started this site when I was ten (I’m twelve now). I began working on this site because I love to read so much and I always give my friends ideas for books they should read. Click here to see a list of my favorites books. Other than reading I like to draw and play Minecraft. I also like to rollerblade and build stuff. For a sport I do Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a type of martial arts.
