Xander Miyamoto should be feeling great. It's the beginning of summer vacation, his mother has returned from a long absence, and he has learned that he is a warrior with special powers. Xander never would have guessed that the old Japanese folktale about Momotaro, the hero who sprang from a peach pit, was real, much less part of his own heritage.

But instead, he’s gotten all bitter and mad. He’s been having nightmares almost every night, until his grandmother gives him a Baku charm. It helps for a while but from too much use, it starts to take over his family and friends as well...

Review

I thought this book was pretty good, but I liked the first book in the Momotaro series a lot better. I feel like for the entire first half of the story Xander was super grumpy and mad at everything. But after that bump in the road, the adventure becomes really immersive and captivating. And I really enjoyed how every time they think they get close to their goal there will be another obstacle to add to the story. So there is always more that will happen.

So, overall, I would rate Margaret Dilloway’s “Xander and the Dream Thief” four stars. I would recommend it to ages 10 and up.

about Xavier

Hi my name is Xavier, my mom and I started this site when I was ten (I’m thirteen now). I began working on this site because I love to read so much and I always give my friends ideas for books they should read. Click here to see a list of my favorites books. Most of my days are spent at school, on the bus, or doing homework. When I find a little down time I like to draw, listen to music, sing, play ukulele or bass guitar.
