Amazing book!

The first rule of punk: be yourself!

After moving to Chicago, Malú has to start at a new school. On her first day she somehow manages to make an enemy out of the school’s queen bee and violate the school dress code with her punk rock makeup.

With a talent show coming up, Malú decides to put together a band with the school misfits, like hersrelf. But after being kicked out, because it’s not “traditional” enough, they realize they may have to fight for their rights and what they believe in.

Review

The First Rule of Punk is one of the best books I have read this year. I love how Malú is always defying what’s considered “normal” and she’s just super cool and inspiring.

Celia C. Perez creates a very inspiring and beautiful novel that you will forever remember. It tells the story a half Mexican girl who tries to fit in at her new school after moving to Chicago. But upon meeting some new friends, she realizes some things are worth standing up for.

I recommend this book to every 6th grader out there. I think middle school is the perfect time to read this book, but anyone older would defiantly enjoy this book loads too.

I was totally inspired with Malú’s way of expressing herself through her zine making so … HERE’S MY ZINE!!!

about Xavier

Hi my name is Xavier, my mom and I started this site when I was ten (I’m twelve now). I began working on this site because I love to read so much and I always give my friends ideas for books they should read. Click here to see a list of my favorites books. Other than reading I like to draw and play Minecraft. I also like to rollerblade and build stuff. For a sport I do Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a type of martial arts.
